The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse

About Us

It all started on May 16, 1984. As You Like It opened for a one week run at Manuel's Tavern on North Highland Avenue and a dream was born. Ultimately attracting national attention with articles in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and coverage by CBS and CNN news programs, this modest production became the defining experience for what would ultimately become America's only Shakespeare Tavern?: An Original Practice Playhouse? with a ready to eat cafe-style menu available before each performance.

General Public Parking

  • We recommend parking in the Emory University Hospital Midtown Parking Deck, located directly across the street from the front doors of The Shakespeare Tavern? on Peachtree Street. Parking should be about $5.
  • DO NOT park on Pine Street or in the empty parking lots on Pine Street. Your car might be booted if you park in these lots.
  • Our handicapped parking/handicapped entrance is at the back of our theater, off of Renaissance Parkway. Once you turn onto Renaissance Parkway from Peachtree Street, you will turn right onto Courtland Street. The Tavern?s back entrance will be immediately on your right once you clear the building on the corner and the traffic bumps. It is a tricky turn, so drive slowly. Handicapped parking is in front of the ramp behind our building.
